San Diego, CA – Ronald B. Kuppersmith, MD, of College Station, TX, has become the President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery for the 2009/10 term. He began his term at the Opening Ceremony of the Academy’s 2009 Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO in San Diego, CA, October 4 – 7, that attracted over 8,000 attendees. The American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, one of the oldest medical associations in the nation, represents more than 12,000 physicians and allied health professionals who specialize in the treatment of the ears, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck.
Dr. Kuppersmith is a board-certified otolaryngologist and has practiced at Texas ENT and Allergy since 2003. He is a clinical faculty member of the Texas A&M Health Science Center. He is also among the first surgeons in North America to successfully perform robot-assisted endoscopic thyroid surgery using the daVinci Surgical System. Dr. Kuppersmith is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, and is a member of the American Thyroid Association, American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Texas Association of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and the Brazos-Robertson County Medical Society. Dr. Kuppersmith also currently serves as the President of the Texas Association of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and on the Board of Trustees of the College Station Medical Center. He is a Senior Examiner for the American Board of Otolaryngology. He has received numerous awards, including being selected by his peers for inclusion in the "Best Doctors in America,” the “Guide to America’s Top Physicians” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America, and a Distinguished Service Award and an Honor Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He serves on the editorial boards of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Laryngoscope, and ENT Journal. He has given over 100 invited lectures in the United States, Europe, and South America. Dr. Kuppersmith attended the University of Michigan for his undergraduate degree and medical school. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, including service at the Methodist Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Childrens Hospital, Ben Taub General Hospital and the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
